MEA Document Attestation Procedure in Oman:

All original documents requiring Attestation or Apostille by the Ministry of External Affairs, New Delhi, are required to be first authenticated/attested by the designated authorities/departments of the State Governments//Union Territory from where the documents were issued. MEA Attestation can only be done after the respective relevant state authority has attested a particular document.

Authentication of documents in Oman

Non-Educational Documents:
The documents (like birth or death certificates, marriage certificates, affidavits, driving licenses, etc.) are required to be first attested by the State Home Department of the issuing State/Union Territory. The authentication must be done with the name and designation seal as well as the seal of the Department.


Educational Documents:
The documents should be first attested by the State Education Department of the concerned State Government/Union Territory. The authentication must be done with the name and designation seal as well as the seal of the Department.

Commercial Documents:
The documents are to be pre-authenticated by the respective Chambers of Commerce before these can be attested by the Ministry of External Affairs, New Delhi. The rubber stamp of the respective Chamber of Commerce must be affixed on each document along with the name & designation of authorized signatory.

APOSTILLE

India is a member of the Hague convention of October 5, 1961, abolishing the requirement of legalization of foreign public documents. Apostille is acceptable in 98 member-countries of the convention - please see list below - (additionally visit HCCH internet site: www.hcch.net). Appostille is done for personal documents like birth/death/marriage certificates, Affidavits, power of attorney, and many others, and academic documents like diploma, degree, matriculation and secondary level certificates and so on.

Documents Required for Educational/Personal Certificates Attestation for MEA Attestation in Oman:

Only authentic documents duly authenticated by way of the designated government of the state Governments are Apostilled by the Ministry of External Affairs. Apostille in Oman is done at the reverse side of the authentic document. The candidates need to submit the subsequent documents.

In case the document is found, at any stage, to be fake or the authentication forged, the same might be seized by the Ministry of external Affairs. The Ministry may also initiate appropriate legal action in opposition to the applicant. The service charge paid to us or the Ministry of external Affairs cannot be returned in any condition.
